People often ask me what my plans are for summer. While I know that summer is generally a time for families to travel and do a lot of activities I have been focusing on doing less and soaking up as much of the beauty that Maine has to offer in the summertime. It is absolutely incredible here in the summer, why in the world would I leave? Winter is the time that I want to run away to somewhere warm, but summer is the reward for trudging through those dark winter days.
Right now, I am looking at my calendar and while this has been one of the busiest years for my photography business ever, I still have a bit of summertime availability. Here’s the thing, I LOVE summer sessions and I feel like they don’t get a fair shake. Fall sessions tend to be everyone’s go-to but summer sessions are downright glorious. I know that this may seem like I’m just trying to drum up business and I can’t deny that, but also what is more important is that I feel like people miss a huge opportunity for photos in the most beautiful time of year. If you are thinking you’d like to get a family session in, or need a headshot refresh, please reach out ASAP, because as we know summer is gone in an instant!
What else is going on? I have started putting together a class offering on substack. It is a little bit of an experiment but as you may know I spent most of my life in dance classes and photographing moving people is my happy place. I also LOVED leading workshops in the past, not just in photography but dance and art classes too. So, this has been rattling around in my brain for a long time and I felt like ready or not, I needed to put something positive and creative into the world, which has been pretty heartbreaking as of late.
Lastly, this year I have no immediate plans to come to San Diego, I KNOW. Not coming this year was the hardest decision ever, if you are in Southern California and want photos, please let me know! I want to come back for photos so much, but I just haven’t been able to get a trip to come together this year and it stinks. I’d love to pre-book some sessions and make it happen.
So, thank you, you are getting this because at some point we have worked together. Taking photos is the best job in the world. I spent a lot of my life feeling pretty purposeless and being present as a photographer for people changed all of that. It is such a gift to take photos for you. I hope your summer is restful and you are happy and healthy.
