It has finally happened. I have been too busy to sit down and write out a quarterly newsletter, so, it is woefully late. I have been planning this one for a while and when I sat back down to write it I saw a jumble of notes that said:
fast busy
little bit of availability
getting ready for holidays?
substack
travel plans for future?
Sometimes, or lately most of the time, it feels like marketing and advertising my photography business seems a bit frivolous. Like a luxury item at a time when many people have no space or time or budget for such things. Yet, here I am, reaching out, again, because I believe so much in the power that photography holds for people. I have lived it in my own life and I have heard from friends, family, and clients that often, when things change quickly, or people change, or go away, or die, or cut their hair, or grow up (which happens too fast in my opinion) that sometimes the only thing we have to hold on to is a photo.
I don’t remind you of this to frighten you, but to gently nudge you, to please get photos of you and the people and animals and friends and places you love, because nothing stays the same forever. Would I like to be the one to take those photos? YES, but if it cannot be me, it should be somebody. If you are reading this here is your nudge to get in front of a camera. Someday, someone will be so happy they have that photo of you and that someone may be you.
Yes, life has been fast busy lately. Sometimes it feels like mayhem. Sometimes I look at the mountain of laundry that I have to still fold and wonder if I am a crazy person and the answer is probably yes, but also, life is far too short to prioritize folded pants before my actual life’s work.
I have a little bit of availability yet! Fall is not over in Southern Maine, so if you are still looking for some photos for fall, don’t hesitate to get on my books. Email me and we can go from there.
I have no idea by what I meant with “getting ready for holidays?” but I can tell you I was probably brainstorming and trying to come up with some kind of offer. I don’t know. Marketing is hard. So much talk about being my own brand and crafting and offer but honestly, I just want to show up for you. I want to be present. I want to meet your new babies and hang out with your teenagers and walk in the woods with you.
It brings me back to life, and fills me with awe to photograph you.
Substack: I am still working on a substack and despite the busy pace of life the last month or so, I have been adding more and more ideas and entries to it. It’s all about photographing moving subjects. Check it out here!
Finally, travel! I am hoping to return to Southern California next year, and while dates haven’t been officially set, I am eyeing dates in June. If you are in Southern California and want to book photos with me, please let me know!
