It’s rare to see a photo of myself taken while I’m working. I don’t often take self portraits, though I’ve been encouraged to do so. This is one from a beautiful wedding that I photographed last October. Photographing weddings is something I never imagined I would do for a job, then pretty much as soon as I picked up a camera, people started asking me to photograph their weddings. I
I could go on and on about wedding photography, which I plan on doing in another post, but this one, is actually about some goals that I have this year. I have often told my children, that if they want something, they need to tell someone. Sometimes this is as simple as saying they need a snack or a glass of water. Other times it’s something more complicated or emotional. In every situation, practicing communicating what your goals are, out loud, to those around you is important.
So, here’s a list of things I want to do more of this year and why.
Well, weddings: Especially small gatherings of 100 guests or less. Why so small? Would I ever shoot a bigger wedding? Sure, weddings are so special that I want to make sure I am the right photographer for you though, so let’s chat about it.
Families: with an emphasis on unposed, documentary photography. While I really enjoy posing your family, documentary family sessions are a whole different vibe. We spend a longer amount of time together and at the end there is a chronicle of your beautiful life. I have some ideas in the works for day in the life style sessions and I can’t wait to offer this officially, in the meantime, family sessions are still where my heart lives. When I stop directing and let your family show me who you are, magic happens.
Travel: I love travel and recently sat down and crunched the numbers on how to offer this in a more seamless way. While I am looking at dates for my San Diego trip early this summer, I’m hoping to check more cities off my list. If you are interested in bringing me to your area, reach out!
I have BIG dreams that the little photo business that could will level up, grow, and take me places I’ve never been before. If you want me to take photos of you, your life’s most amazing moments and most cherished people, I want to be there.
So, while I sit here, blizzard raging outside, I am looking forward to all the amazing things that this year still holds for us.
